Oneonta Men's Track & Field Finishes Fourth at SUNYAC Championships

Red Dragons Have Two Individual Champions

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field concluded action at SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, placing 4th out of 11 teams with 67 points. Cortland won the team title with 235 points. For his performance, junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) was named SUNYAC Co-Rookie of the Meet alongside Samuel Van Auken from Plattsburgh.

The day started with the final events of the heptathlon. Senior Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) placed fourth with a personal best of 3,793 points. He was third in the pole vault with a personal record of 3.00 meters.

In the 60-meter hurdle finals, senior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) won the silver medal with a time of 8.28.

Fifth-year Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) was the SUNYAC Champion in the mile and crossed at 4:22.92. Junior Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) placed fifth at 4:30.59, while freshman Alex Wheeler was tenth at 4:37.85.

Oneonta had another champion with junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) in the 60-meter dash. He took first at 6.85. Lester also placed fourth in the 200-meter finals at 22.26.

Two Red Dragons scored in the 800-meter race. Freshman Xander Kunz (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) placed fifth at a personal best of 1:59.87. Junior Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) had a personal record of 2:00.60 for eighth overall. Junior Jonathan McGwyne-Dantis (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) ran a personal best of 2:01.31 for tenth place, and junior Colin Gerbsch (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) was 11th at 2:01.52.

Gabe continued with a sixth-place finish in the 3,000-meter at 9:02.06.

In the long jump, junior Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) went 7.03 meters for fifth overall. Senior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) took eighth at 6.79 meters.

Oneonta next competes at the AARTFC Indoor Championships held at the Armory in New York City on Friday, March 6.
