Oneonta Women's Track & Field Prepped for SUNYAC Championships

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field team heads to the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships this week, starting on Friday, February 27, and then concluding on Saturday, February 28, at the SUNY Brockport Special Events Recreation Center. The Friday events begin at 2:30 p.m., then at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Last season, the Red Dragons finished as the SUNYAC runner-up, while Cortland won the meet. The Red Dragons claimed the DMR title for the second year in a row, while sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) was the SUNYAC mile champion. Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) was named SUNYAC Rookie of the Meet for scoring the most points as a first-year. In total, Oneonta recorded ten All-SUNYAC performances.

Oneonta Entries
60-Meter Dash

Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) ranks third in the SUNYAC with a time of 7.91 that she set at the Utica Holiday Classic earlier in the season. Freshman Olvia Nicholls is seeded fifth at 8.01, while sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) grabs the sixth seed at 8.05. Junior Brianna Senatore (/) ranks tenth at 8.30, and sophomore Kristanna Samascott (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) posted an 8.30 for 13th.

200-Meter Dash
Nicholls recorded a personal record of 25.93 at the Marc Deneault Invitational to rank third in the SUNYAC. Freshman Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) set a personal best at the same meet, earning a fourth-seed of 25.98. DuBose picks up the sixth seed at 26.38, while Senatore takes the tenth seed at 27.03. Samascott rounds out the group at the 16th seed at 27.55

400-Meter Dash
Gorrell is the lone Red Dragon in the 400-meter and ranks ninth (1:02.79).

800-Meter
Sweat looks to defend her SUNYAC title in the 800-meter—her time of 2:18.63 seeds her fourth overall. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) banks the eighth seed at 2:27.65, while senior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) is seeded 13th at 2:33.22. Freshman Kaitlynn Slobodin (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) ranks 14th at 2:33.57, and senior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) is 17th at 2:34.39.

One Mile
Sweat competes again in the one mile as the third seed. She ran a personal best of 5:08.43 at the Utica Fastrack National Invite. Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) takes the eighth seed at 5:31.47.

3,000-Meter
Junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) leads Oneonta with the 11th seed in the 3,000-meter. She posted a personal best of 10:53.71 at the Ithaca Quad Meet. Freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) earned a personal record of 11:02.03 at the Blue & Orange Invite to rank 12th in the SUNYAC. Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) is seeded 13th at 11:04.32, while sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) is 16th at 11:09.36. Sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) grabbed the 20th seed at 11:33.97.

5,000-Meter
Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) takes the fourth seed in the 5,000 and ran a personal best of 18:15.01 at the Fastrack National Invite. Cinquina ran her career-best at the same meet (19:11.67) to pick up the seventh seed. Sophomore Abbie Battle (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa/) competes as the 16th seed (20:26.85).

60-Meter Hurdles
Three Red Dragons are set to compete in the hurdles, with Scharg picking up the second seed. She ran a personal best of 8.89 at the Marc Deneault Invitational, which ranks 25th in Division III. Junior Melinda Reid (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) takes the fifth seed at 9.50, while senior Ashlee Sphabmixay (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) is seeded 15th at 10.25.

Distance Medley Relay (DMR)
Oneonta looks to three-peat in the DMR and is seeded third at 13:58.46.

High Jump
Reid continues with the seventh seed in the high jump at 1.52 meters.

Pole Vault
Sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) set a personal best of 3.07 meters at the Marc Deneault Invitational to rank fifth in the SUNYAC.

Long Jump
Oneonta fields a strong group in the long jump. Schrag comes ranked second in the SUNYAC at 5.37 meters—a mark set at the Ithaca Bomber Inviational. Junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) earned the fourth seed at 5.25 meters, while DuBose took the sixth seed at 5.28 meters. Junior Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) takes the tenth seed with 5.02 meters, and junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) is 12th at 4.90 meters. Freshman Alana Westerling (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) is 16th (4.76 meters), LaReddola is 17th (4.73 meters), and freshman Aniyah Green (Port Jervis, NY/Port Jervis) is 18th (4.69 meters).

Triple Jump
Schrag is seeded fourth in the triple jump at 10.91 meters, while DuBose takes the sixth seed at 10.74 meters. Hein is ranked 12th at 10.15 meters, and LaReddola seeds 9.93 meters. Westerling grabbed the 14th seed at 9.90 meters.

Shot Put
Senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) takes the top seed in the shot put at 13.12 meters. The mark also ranks 30th in Division III. Freshman Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) takes the ninth seed at 11.39 meters. Junior Sophia Mitreski (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) takes the 14th seed at 10.26 meters.

Weight Throw
Herman enters SUNYACs as the fifth seed with a mark of 15.14 meters. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) is close behind at the sixth seed with 14.08 meters. Mitreski will also compete as the 19th seed (11.68 meters).

Pentathlon
Dodd-Brown ranks second in the SUNYAC with 2,800 points. Junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) is seeded sixth with 2,349, while Reid is ranked seventh at 2,326. Freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) takes the eighth seed at 2,290.
