DuBose Wins SUNYAC Triple Jump Title; Red Dragons Medal in Five Events

Oneonta Sits Second after First Day of SUNYAC Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) won gold in the triple jump on the first day of the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday as the Red Dragons currently place second with 57 points. In total, Oneonta medaled in five events on the day. Cortland leads the team scoring with 68 points.

DuBose won the triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.50 meters on her third attempt. The distance was nearly half a meter farther than second place and ranks 18th in NCAA Division III.

Junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) took silver in the pentathlon with a personal record 2,888 points. She placed in the top five of four events and was second in the long jump at 5.07 meters. She finished third in the 60-meter hurdles at 9.42. Freshman Eva Croft (Sherrill, NY/Vernon Verona Sherrill Central) placed sixth with 2,450 points and took second in the 800-meter run at 2:40.04. Junior Jacey Hinds (Blossvale, NY/Camden Senior) was seventh with 2,438 points, while junior Melinda Reid (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) scored 2,282 points for tenth overall.

Oneonta had two Red Dragons reach tomorrow's finals in the 60-meter hurdles. Sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) placed second at 9.06, while Reid was sixth with a 9.45.

Freshman Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) ran a personal best of 1:01.31 in the 400-meter to qualify for the finals.

Four Red Dragons qualified for the 60-meter dash finals. DuBose placed third in the prelims at 8.01m, while freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) had a personal best of 7.99. Schrag took sixth at 8.04, and junior Brianna Senatore (/) was seventh at 8.08.

Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) crossed fifth in the 5,000-meter with a personal best of 18:27.38. Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) placed ninth with a personal best of 19:10.26.

In the 200-meter prelims, Nicholls was fourth at 25.94, while Gorrell took fifth at 26.28. DuBose is the third Red Dragon to reach the finals and was seventh at 26.39.

Oneonta's DMR of Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), and Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) took bronze at 13:03.05.

Sophomore Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) cleared 3.05 meters in the pole vault to finish fourth overall.

Schrag placed fourth in the triple jump at 10.71 meters, while junior Carly Hein (Endwell, NY/Maine Endwell) grabbed seventh at a personal best of 10.51 meters. Freshman Alana Westerling (Amsterdam, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) finished ninth at 10.28 meters.

Senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) hit a personal best of 15.81 meters in the weight throw to win the silver medal.

The Oneonta women's track & field team continues the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday, February 28, starting with the 60-meter hurdle finals at 12:10 p.m.
