Red Dragons Finish as SUNYAC Runner-Up at Conference Championships

BROCKPORT, N.Y. - Six Red Dragons medaled on the second day of the SUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships as Oneonta placed second out of 11 teams with 147 points. Cortland won its second straight title with 199.5 points.

Oneonta started the day with sophomore Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) winning the silver medal in the 60-meter hurdle finals at a personal best of 8.96. Junior Melinda Reid (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) took sixth at 9.58.

In the mile, sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) ran a personal best of 4:59.33 to win the silver medal. Junior Oliva Komacek placed seventh at 5:33.72.

Freshman Gracie Gorrell (Columbus, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) crossed fifth in the 400-meter at 1:01.35.

Junior Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) ran a personal best of 7.88 in the 60-meter finals to win the bronze medal. Freshman Olivia Nicholls (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) was fourth at a personal best of 7.95, while Schrag took fifth at 7.98. Junior Brianna Senatore (/) crossed seventh at 8.19.

Sweat grabbed another medal in the 800-meter by placing third at 2:17.44. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) was seventh overall at 2:24.10.

Nicholls finished fourth in the 200-meter finals at a personal record of 25.90. Gorrell took sixth at 26.50, while DuBose placed seventh at 26.52.

In the 3,000-meter, junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) ran a personal best of 10:37.62 for fifth overall. Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) took 11th at 10:52.75, while freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) crossed 12th at 10:57.35.

Schrag grabbed second place in the long jump with a personal best of 5.59 meters. Junior Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) finished sixth at 5.20 meters.

Senior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) won the silver medal in the shot put at 12.21 meters. Sophomore Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) threw 11.48 meters for fourth overall, while freshman Brianna Cinamon (Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) took seventh at 10.96 meters.

Oneonta next competes at the AARTFC Indoor Championships held at the Armory in New York City on Friday, March 6.
