TROY, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's lacrosse team fell 18-4 in its season opener to RPI on Tuesday afternoon. The Engineers (1-0) led 10-1 at halftime as the Red Dragons fell to 0-1.
After Camille Stackhouse won the opening draw control, Beckett Houston scored on an assist from Kacey Pritts at 14:11. Senior Lindsey Townes (Yorktown Heights, NY/Yorktown) responded with a shot on goal at 13::06, but RPI's Lillian Brady made the save. Goals from Pritts and Quinn Wollard gave the Engineers a 3-0 lead. Freshman Ava Fitzsimons (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) mustered a pair of on-goal attempts, but Brady stopped both. RPI added two more goals from Houston and Stackhouse to lead 5-0 after the first.
RPI scored three goals within the first five minutes of the second quarter to push the lead to 8-0. Stackhouse netted her second goal at 7:32 off a free position. Oneonta got on the board when Townes scored off a pass from senior Chelsea Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, NY/East Islip) at 5:16 to cut the lead to 9-1. RPI scored once more from Pritts before halftime to take a nine-goal lead.
Oneonta scored two quick goals to start the second half, with sophomore Angelina Weinert (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) finding the back of the net from an assist by freshman Emily McIntee (East Islip, NY/East Islip) at 13:55. Sophomore Ava De Vito (Levittown, NY/Division Avenue) won the ensuing draw control, and Fitzsimons eventually scored at 12:58 to make it 10-3. Houston followed with two consecutive goals to end the third quarter at 12-3.
Townes scored a woman-up goal to begin the fourth. RPI followed up with unanswered goals to end the fourth.
Townes finished with two goals and three groundballs. Weinert added one goal and two groundballs. Fitzsimons finished with a goal. Senior Megan Hannon (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) added three groundballs.
Stackhouse and Wollard led RPI with five goals each. Houston netted four goals, while Pritts had two goals and five assists.
Junior Margot Haring (Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks) made four saves in goal, while freshman Ava Berkowitz (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) had eight. RPI's Brady had seven saves.
Oneonta next hosts Nazareth on Saturday, February 28 at 1 p.m. for the OneLove Game.
