ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team headed to the RIT Friday Meet at the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. The invitational went late into the evening with the Red Dragons grabbing multiple personal bests.
Starting the day was the long jump, where senior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) recorded a personal best of 6.77 meters for third overall. Sophomore Gabriel Schoonmaker (/) took ninth at 6.38 meters, while junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) was 16th at 6.21 meters. Tsoi also placed 17th in the high jump at 1.78 meters.
Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) threw 15.68 meters in the weight throw for seventh place, while junior Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) earned 12th at 14.70 meters. Senior Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) grabbed a personal best of 13.66 meters for 19th. Cruz continued with a personal record of 13.42 meters to finish 12th in the shot put. Freshman Jacob Blencowe (/) had a personal best of 12.76 meters for 17th overall.
In the 400-meter, sophomore Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) placed ninth overall at 51.99, while senior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) ran a 52.03 for tenth place. In the 300-meter race, junior Mark Cappellino crossed ninth at 38.64.
Fifth-year Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) won the 3,000-meter race at 8:55.33. Junior Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) was tenth at 9:26.04, while freshman Xander Kunz (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) had a personal best of 9:35.85 for 15th. Freshman Alex Wheeler crossed 16th at 9:44.81.
The 200-meter dash saw junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) run a personal best of 23.05 for fourth overall. Freshman Amir Mceachin () was 15th at 23.42.
Oneonta's 4x200 relay of Mceachin, Spears, Lester, and Jerome finished second at 1:33.40. The 4x400 relay of senior Colin Gerbsch (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus), junior Jonathan McGwyne-Dantis (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee), freshmen Garry Ryan (Woodside, NY/Archbishop Molloy), and Nick Petro (Peru, NY/Peru) placed sixth at 3:40.64. Â
Oneonta next competes at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Saturday, January 31.
