Red Dragons Travel to Ithaca Quad Meet

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team continued its indoor season with a fourth-place performance at the Ithaca Quad Meet on Saturday. TCNJ won the meet with 162 points, while the Red Dragons scored 77.

The running events started with the mile, where fifth-year Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) placed fifth at 4:23.58. Junior Noah Pickard (Batavia, NY/Batavia) crossed 13th at a personal best of 4:37.52. Xander Kunz (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) ran a 4:40.94 for 14th overall.

In the 60-meter prelims, junior Kejhaune Lester (Castleton, NY/Columbia) broke seven seconds to win at 6.97. Senior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) reached the finals after taking fourth in the prelims at 7.11. Lester won the finals by matching his time at 6.97, while Spears crossed seventh at 7.15.

Freshman Nick Petro (Peru, NY/Peru) ran a personal best of 2:03.20 to finish sixth in the 800-meter. Junior Colin Gerbsch (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) posted a 2:03.95 for eighth place.

In the 200-meter dash, freshman Haywood Edwards (/) ran a 23.07 for tenth overall. Freshman Amir Mceachin was 11th (23.10), and senior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) took 12th (23.18).

Oneonta's 4x400 relay of Jacob Prentice (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley), Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow), Edwards, and Jamar Matthew (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon Stream Academy) placed fifth at 3:31.42.

Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) was the top Oneonta finisher in the weight throw at 14.52 meters. Junior Connor Vredenburgh (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) had a personal record of 13.82 meters for eighth overall. Junior Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) was ninth (13.64 meters), and senior Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) threw 12.65 meters for tenth.

Eckberg went on to take eighth in the shot put at 13.09 meters. Baldwin threw 12.86 meters for tenth overall. Cruz set a personal best of 12.71 meters to finish 12th.

Junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) cleared 1.79 meters in the high jump to take sixth place.

Junior Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) set a personal record of 7.24 meters to win the long jump. The mark currently ranks fifth among NCAA Division III schools. Sophomore Gabriel Schoonmaker (/) grabbed fourth with a personal record of 6.58 meters.

Jerome earned fourth in the triple jump at 13.01 meters. Schoonmaker had another personal best of 12.89 meters to take sixth.

Oneonta next competes at the RIT Invitational on January 23 at 4 p.m.
