HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team dropped its final two matches on Saturday. First losing 3-0 to Springfield and then 3-0 to Stevens. The Red Dragons move to 10-5 overall with the loss.
The Pride (9-2) swept the Red Dragons 25-13, 25-18, and 25-11. Oneonta took a 9-8 lead in the second set following an ace from sophomore Kayla Kean (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa Central), but Springfield answered with a 4-0 run. The Pride took a 16-11 lead before Oneonta went on a 3-0 run. Springfield took a 23-17 lead, and junior Autumn Singleton (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) knocked in a kill to cut the lead to five. Kills from Aubrey Hill and Ahunna James sealed the set win.
Juniors Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) and Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) each had four kills. Freshman Layla Pertchik (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) made 13 assists, and senior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) grabbed 12 digs.
Jodi Saelua led Springfield with 14 kills. Emily Keaveney added eight kills, three aces, and 13 digs.
Stevens (6-5) took the second match 25-13, 25-20, and 25-20. After a challenging first set, Oneonta kept closer in the following two. The Red Dragons went ahead 7-3 in the third following two kills from senior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) and an ace from Cadence Meltz (Highland, NY/Highland). Oneonta continued to hold a slight 9-7 lead following a kill from sophomore Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville). Oneonta's lead grew to 18-13 following another Landversicht kill, but the Ducks responded with an 8-0 to take the lead at 19-18. Landversicht sent in another kill to cut the lead to 21-20, but Stevens closed out on a 4-0 run.
Landversicht led Oneonta with seven kills and two blocks. Morretta added five kills, and sophomore Hailey Herrera (Brooklyn, NY/Park Slope Collegiate) had four aces and 17 assists. Meltz finished with nine digs.
Ella Kraver led with Stevens with 13 kills, and Mallory Eder had seven. Alexa Brucculeri finished with six aces and ten digs. Molly Harris garnered 18 assists.
Oneonta next plays at Marywood on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m.
