Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team picked up a 3-1 win over Sarah Lawrence to open the Stevens Tournament on Friday evening. The Red Dragons took the first two sets 25-18 and 27-25 before falling 25-14 in the third. Oneonta (10-3) then downed the Gryphons (4-6) 25-23 in the fourth set.
Junior Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) led the Red Dragons with 12 kills. Sophomore Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) had 11 kills, while junior Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) had 11 kills on .550 hitting and four blocks. Freshman Cadence Meltz (Highland, NY/Highland) recorded four aces and ten digs, and junior Lillian Slattery (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) recorded three aces with ten digs. Freshman Layla Pertchik (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) made 41 assists with four blocks.
Athena Kazos knocked in 18 kills for the Gryphons, while Brynn Beck added ten kills and 11 digs. Nikolet Vataj had four aces and nine digs. Sophia Costa made 30 assists.
Oneonta trailed 19-14 in the fourth set before kills from Morretta and Welsh brought the score within three. Slattery recorded two aces and a block from Pertchik, and Morretta tied 20-20. After Sarah Lawrence took a 23-22 lead, Lanversicht sent in three straight kills to grab the victory.
Oneonta finished the Stevens Tournament on Sept. 20 with matches against Springfield at 11:30 a.m. and Stevens at 1:30 p.m.
