ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) recorded her 100th career ace as the Oneonta women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Hartwick (5-7) on Wednesday evening. The Red Dragons (9-3) won the first set 25-21 before losing 25-21, 27-25, and 25-21. Â
Moller recorded her 100th ace on her first serve to cut the Hawks' lead to 7-6 in the first. After a Oneonta attack error, the Red Dragons went on a 6-0 run with two kills coming from junior Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) to go ahead 12-8. Oneonta continued to hold a narrow lead and pulled away 18-13 following kills from junior Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) and Welsh to go up 18-13. Moller knocked in another ace to take a five-point lead, and a block from senior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) and sophomore Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) made it 22-16.
Hartwick used a 4-0 span to cut the lead to two before a McCabe kill and Welsh ace gave Oneonta a 24-20 lead. Freshman Corynna Manjos (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) tallied a kill to take the first set.
Hartwick went ahead 10-6 in the second before a 4-0 Oneonta run tied. Lucy Walker grabbed a kill to retake the lead, but the Red Dragons went on a 7-0 run to take a six-point lead. The Hawks fought back to tie 19-19, and then used a 5-0 span to close out the set.
In the third set, Oneonta went on a 6-0 run to take a 24-22 lead. Hartwick tied at 24-24, but McCabe sent in a kill to take the one-point lead. The Hawks scored three unanswered and took the set on a Malia Dake ace.
The teams traded leads in the fourth, with Hartwick eventually taking a 23-19 lead. Welsh tacked on a kill to make it 24-21, but a final error gave the Hawks the victory.
Welsh finished with 12 kills, while Landversicht had 11 kills and seven blocks. Corynna Manjos (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) had nine kills. Moller recorded three aces and 21 digs, while freshman Layal Pertchik made 21 assists with 10 digs. Freshman Lilliam Slattery grabbed 18 digs.
Isabella Gracias led Hartwick with 15 kills and three blocks. Mary Kinnane had five aces. Ellie Kalbach dished out 39 assists, while Dake had 21 digs.
Oneonta next heads to the Stevens Tournament from Sept. 19-20. The Red Dragons first face Sarah Lawrence on Friday at 5 p.m.
