Red Dragons Win SUNY Poly Short Course Invite

UTICA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's cross country team took the top two spots at the SUNY Poly Short Course 4K Invitational on Saturday morning to earn the team title. The Red Dragons scored 23 points, while Utica was the runner-up with 42.

Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) won the race at 16:58.9, while junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) was a step behind for second at 16:59.2. Sophomore Natalie Sweat crossed fourth overall with a time of 17:21.6. Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) placed sixth at 17:35.1, and sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) earned tenth at 18:38.9.

Freshman Samantha Salomon (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) crossed 11th at 18:39.6, and freshman Kaitlyn Slobodin took 12th at 18:40.8. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) ran an 18:42.9 for 13th, and sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) was 14th at 18:48.8.

Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) grabbed 16th at 18:49.9, while freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) placed 17th with an 18:58.6. Junior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) finished 19th with a time of 19:21.2.

Oneonta next hosts the annual Oneonta Airfield Invitational at Fortin Park on Sept. 5 at 5 p.m.
