Red Dragons Conclude First Day of SUNYAC Championships

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team wrapped up the first day of the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday evening at SUNY Cortland. The Red Dragons sit sixth out of seven scoring teams with 10 points. Host Cortland stands first with 37 points.

Sophomore Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) is currently fourth in the decathlon with 2,517 points. He took second in the 100 meters at 11.71 and was third in the 400 meters at 59.44.

Junior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) took first in the 110-meter hurdle prelims at 14.61 and will compete in Saturday's finals. Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) also qualified after taking eighth at 15.57.

Freshman Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) reached the 400-meter hurdle finals after taking fourth in the prelims at 57.43.

In the long jump, sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) placed fourth at a personal best of 6.78 meters.

Senior Marco Altieri (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) scored in the hammer throw with a sixth-place finish of 51.09 meters. Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) took seventh at 49.63 meters.

The second day of the SUNYAC Championships continues on Sat. May 3 at 9:20 a.m.
