WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - The Oneonta men's track & field headed to Williams College for Wednesday afternoon's first day of the AARTFC Championships. The Red Dragons sit tied for 10th with 13 points, while York (PA) is first with 28 points.
The Red Dragons started the track events with the 110-meter hurdles, where junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) took 13th in the prelims at 15.32. In the 100-meter dash, junior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) finished 29th at 11.08.
Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) broke his own school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after crossing second overall at 9:03.58. Sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) took 12th at 9:44.36.
In the 10,000, senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) ran a 31:44.17 to place sixth overall, while fifth-year John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) took 21st at 34:38.05.
Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) earned 13th in the discus at 43.98 meters.
Sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) hit a program record of 6.96 meters in the long jump to finish seventh overall.
