CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team continued the season at the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Friday.
The track events started with the 4x100 relay, where Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach), Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), and Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) placed fifth with an AARTFC qualifying time of 43.39.
In the 1,500-meter race, fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) placed second at 4:01.85, and sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) took third at 4:03.64.
Sophomore Jackson Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.92, while Earl crossed sixth at 16.00. Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) grabbed seventh with a 16.67.
Sophomore Colin Bresnihan (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) placed eighth in the 400-meter race with a 52.85.
Freshman Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) ran a 58.09 to place third in the 400-meter hurdles.
In the field events, senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) took fourth in the hammer throw at 49.83 meters, while sophomore Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) was fifth at 48.14 meters. Senior Marco Altieri (Staten Island, NY/Staten Island) earned sixth at 47.76 meters, and sophomore Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) finished eighth at 45.21 meters.
Eckberg placed second in the discus at 42.62 meters, and Baldwin was fourth at 41.62 meters.
Junior Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) placed third in the javelin at 42.02 meters, and Altieri finished fifth at 39.51 meters.
Eckberg continued with an eighth-place finish in the shot put at 11.98 meters.
Sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) hit 6.63 meters to take third in the long jump. Jerome took sixth at 6.23 meters, and freshman Gabriel Schoonmaker () was seventh at 6.19 meters.
Jerome went on to finish fifth in the triple jump at 12.97 meters, while Slater was sixth at 12.78 meters. Sophomore Thomas Pinkowski hit 12.72 meters for seventh overall.
Oneonta next competes at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invitational on Sat. Apr. 12 at 10 a.m.
