EWING, NJ. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team traveled to the College of New Jersey for a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tri-match, Saturday afternoon. Oneonta split the trip with a 6-1 victory over Rutgers-Camden, while they dropped to No. 53 TCNJ, 7-0. The Red Dragons improved to 8-10 this season and 1-1 in conference play.

In doubles play, junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) forced a tiebreaker in a back-and-forth match on the No. 1 court, however Asa Wong and Harrison Maitland-Carter took the match, 7-6 (8-6). The freshmen duo
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery), and the pairing of freshman
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) and sophomore
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers), fell on the No. 2 and No. 3 courts, 6-0.
Schmid was tripped up by Maitland-Carter on the No. 1 singles court, 6-1, 6-1. Chippari had the closest match on the No. 2 court against Alberto Thomas, but Thomas took the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. Ritterman, Geller, Pitaleff, and junior
Nate Inzerillo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) all dropped their respective singles matches in straight sets.
Oneonta 6, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Red Dragons swept all three doubles matches for the doubles point. Chippari and Schmid dismantled Alex Loope and Neal Shah on the No. 1 court, 6-2. The win improved the duo to 9-8 this season. Pitaleff and Ritterman bageled Chris Abacan and John Brady, 6-0, on the No. 2 court and improved to 8-8 as a team. Geller and Inzerillo defeated Julian Pinder and Alex Turcu, 6-2, on the No. 3 court and are now 1-1 as a pair.
Ritterman won his singles match on court No. 3 in double bagel style over Abacan, 6-0, 6-0 and improved to 7-10 this season. Schmid bested Shah on the No. 2 court in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 and moved to 7-9 in singles play this season. Geller recorded his seventh win in singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 dismantling against John Brady on the No. 4 court. Pitaleff beat Pinder on the No. 5 court, 6-3, 6-2 for his seventh singles victory, and Cheung improved to 4-3 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-2 straight set win over Turcu.
TCNJ will face UW-Whitewater for the WIAC Championship on May 3. Oneonta is back in action for their final match of the season on Saturday, April 26, against St. John Fisher at 2 pm on the Dr. Heissan '63 tennis courts.
