Red Dragons Continue Season at Bucknell and Utica

UTICA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field competed in two meets on Sunday. Part of the team traveled to the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite, and the Red Dragons continued action at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic.

In the Pioneer Spring Invite, freshman Pat Leahy (Seaford, NY/Seaford) ran a 4:54.11 to place 20th in the 1,500. Freshman Jonathan McGwyne-Dantis (Blauvelt, NY/Tappan Zee) took ninth in the 400-meter race at 54.20. Junior Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland) crossed 12th at 54.85, while freshman James Castoria (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) was 13th at 55.08.

In the 100-meter dash, freshman Scott Heaslip (Seaford, NY/Seaford) took 29th at 11.84. Junior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) took 31st at with a career best of 11.90, and freshman Gabriel Schoonmaker () was 32nd at 11.91.

Darrigo continued with a 13th-place finish in the 200-meter at 23.90. Heaslip was 26th at 24.62.

Schoomaker went on to place fifth in the long jump at 6.18 meters. Senior Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) took tenth at 6.01 meters, while sophomore Thomas Pinkowski was 11th at 5.90 meters. Pinkowski also cleared 12.84 meters in the triple jump to finish fourth overall.

In the high jump, junior Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) earned fifth at 1.74 meters.

Senior Michael Carey (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) placed sixth in the pole vault at 3.85 meters.

At the Bucknell meet, freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) won the high jump at 1.98 meters.

Junior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) posted a strong personal record of 22.32 for 52nd place in the 200-meter dash. Freshman Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) crossed the 100-meter dash with a personal record of 11.26. Sophomore Colin Bresnihan (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) earned a personal best of 11.55. 

Junior Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) crossed 32nd in the 110-meter hurdles at a personal record of 15.55.

Sophomore Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) took 24th in the hammer throw at a personal best of 49.90 meters. Senior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) finished 30th at 48.40 meters.

In the javelin, junior Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) threw 43.83 meters for 33rd, and sophomore Connor Vredenburgh (Bainbridge, NY/Bainbridge-Guilford) was 34th at 40.46 meters. 

Oneonta next competes at the Cortland Classic on Fri. Apr. 18.
