Oneonta Kicks Off Outdoor Season at Utica Almost Spring Invite

UTICA, N.Y. - On Sunday, the Oneonta women's track & field team began the outdoor season at the Utica Pioneer Almost Spring Invite. The Red Dragons went on to place first in seven individual events.

Oneonta started the track events with the 10,000-meter race, where sophomore Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) placed first with a personal best of 39:36.93. Junior Olivia Holland (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) ran a personal record of 41:30.19 for second place.

Freshman Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:20.12, and freshman Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) took second at 12:36.73. Sophomore Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) ran a 12:42.46 for third.

In the 1,500-meter race, junior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) crossed fourth at 5:08.88.

Freshman Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) won the 100-meter hurdles at 17.03. Senior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) placed second in the 400-meter dash at 1:02.50, while sophomore Daniea Austin (Goshen, NY/Goshen) took eighth at 1:15.06.

Sophomore Brianna Senatore (/) ran a 13.56 to finish second in the 100-meter, and freshman Kristanna Samascott (/) was third at 13.65.

Jackson won the 200-meter dash at 26.97, and Schrag took second at 27.00. Sophomore Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) took fourth with a 27.89.

The track events concluded with the 5,000-meter race, where senior Sabrinna Mena (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) was second at 19:29.47. Sophomore Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) crossed third at 19:58.97.

Oneonta took the top three spots in the shot put, with junior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) winning at 11.09 meters. Freshman Wealthy Robinson (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) placed second at 10.77 meters, and freshman Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) threw 10.51 meters for third place.

Herman took second in the hammer throw at 44.54 meters, while freshman Kailey Allen (Buffalo, NY/Depew) was third at 35.37 meters. Sophomore Sophia Mitreski (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) took fourth at 33.60 meters.

Mitreski won the discus throw at 30.18 meters, and Lawrence placed fifth at 26.65 meters.

Senior Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) threw 36.95 meters to finish second in the javelin, while freshman Lily Plaia (/) took third at 33.28 meters.

Schrag won the long jump with a mark of 5.21 meters. Sophomore Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) hit 4.89 meters for fourth, and DuBose was sixth at 4.55 meters.

Freshman Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) cleared 2.75 meters in the pole vault to place second overall.

Oneonta next competes at the Cortland Red Dragon Open on Sat. Apr. 5.
