HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- The Oneonta women's tennis team traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina for spring break last week. Oneonta fell short in a close match to Baldwin Wallace, 4-3, then bested Western New England, 6-1. The Red Dragons improved their record to 5-9 overall.

Oneonta fell in all three doubles matches as Baldwin Wallace gained the doubles match point. Junior Kelly Hayes (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and freshman Jaila Killingbeck (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) battled Gillian Brown and Samantha Thielen into a tie breaker on the No. 3 court, but Brown and Thielen came away with the match, 7-6 (7-0). Sophomore Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) and freshman Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) came up short on the No. 1 court, 6-4.

The two teams split the singles matches and the Yellow Jackets held onto the match. Junior Danielle Copp (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) defeated Olivia Koutouras in split sets. She fell in the first set then won the second set and the tiebreaker for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-5 win. Plue outlasted Saraphina Groh on the No. 3 court in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, and freshman Annika Cripe (Islip, N.Y./Islip) beat Gillian on the No. 4 court in straight 6-3 sets.
