GENEVA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's tennis team dropped to William Smith on the road, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. The results moved the Red Dragons to 4-8 overall, while the Herons improved to 1-0 on the season.
Oneonta put up a fight in the doubles matches, however William Smith took two of the courts for the doubles point. After the Herons took court one, junior
Danielle Copp (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) and freshman
Annika Cripe (Islip, N.Y./Islip) defeated Teghan Torrey and Mia Jacobs on court two, 6-2, to tie the match. Junior
Kelly Hayes (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) and freshman
Jaila Killingbeck (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) battled on court three, but came up short to Lizzy Legg and Mia Tetrault, 6-4.
The Red Dragons fell in straight sets on all six courts in singles play. Sophomore
Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) was bested on the No. 1 court to Natalie Haythorn, 6-1, 6-0. Cripe was tripped up by Grace Magna on the No. 4 court 6-2, 6-1. Copp and Hayes dropped their respective matches on court two and five, 6-0, 6-2.
Oneonta is back in action for their spring break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina. The team will take on Baldwin Wallace on Wednesday, March 12, at 8:30 am, then they will compete against Western New England University on Friday, March 14, at 7 pm.
