CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's basketball season ended with a 73-55 loss to Cortland in the SUNYAC First Round on Tuesday evening. Oneonta finishes the season at 14-12 overall, while Cortland advances to the SUNYAC Semifinals against Oswego with a 15-11 record.
Strong three-point shooting led Cortland to a 21-11 lead eight minutes into the first half. Pierre Haijar built the lead to 12 points before junior Elijah Castillo (Bronx, NY/St. Raymonds) converted an and-one to cut the lead to single digits. A 6-0 Cortland run brought the lead to 29-14, but a triple and layup from sophomore Kobe Long (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) made it a ten-point game.
Another three from Long cut the lead to 31-22, and a four-minute scoring drought until 2:30 followed. Joel Davis hit a jumper, and Kendall Arcuri knocked down a trey to make it 36-22. Oneonta closed out the half on a 7-0 run, with Long hitting a buzzer-beater three to make it 36-29 at the break.
Cortland built back to a 15-point lead following an inside basket from Aaron Costin at 11:22. Two baskets from Castillo and another from freshman Cam LaClair (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem) made it 48-40 with 8:35 remaining. Cortland regained a double-digit lead and led by as much as 21 points, as Oneonta could not fight their way back.
Long led Oneonta with 19 points, while Castillo added 16. LaClair finished with six points and a career-high 14 rebounds.
Arcuri led Cortland with 17 points and five boards, and Coston had 14 points and eight rebounds. Joel Davis added nine points and ten rebounds.
