ITHACA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team wrapped up the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Saturday. The Red Dragons fared well in competition against Division I and III teams. Â
Oneonta started the track events with the 5,000-meter race that saw sophomore Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) place second at 15:44.99.
In the 60-meter hurdle prelims, sophomore Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) took second at 8.34 to qualify for the finals. He matched his time in the final to finish second overall. Junior Cam Spears (Bronx, NY/Monroe Woodbury) took sixth in the 60-meter dash prelims at 7.19. He then crossed seventh in the finals at 7.15.
Fifth-year Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) was the top Division III finisher in the mile, placing second at 4:19.42. Senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) earned seventh at 4:20.99. Burns also placed 15th in the 800-meter race with a 2:01.46.
In the field events, junior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) placed seventh in the weight throw at 15.53 meters.
Freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) cleared 6.36 meters in the long jump to place ninth overall. Junior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) tied for second in the triple jump at 13.58 meters, while sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) took sixth at 13.33 meters. Adebayo finished tenth at 12.90 meters.
Oneonta continues the season at the Utica Invite on Sat. Feb. 8.
