CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team concluded the first day of the Cortland Snow Flurries on Friday evening with the Red Dragons sitting second out of four teams. Cortland is in the lead with 361, while Oneonta has 253.
The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay. The group of fifth-year Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield), senior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School), and juniors Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany) swam a 1:40.12.
Rhodes continued with a fourth-place performance in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:09.55. Junior Gavin Weseman (Olean, NY/Olean) took ninth with a 5:31.75, and freshman Brendan Kliment (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) took 12th at 6:08.26.
In the 200-yard IM, Martinellie swam a 2:13.53 to place ninth overall. Senior Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) took tenth at 2:13.65. Aramini posted a 23.18 to earn fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, while sophomore Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley) took fifth at 23.32. Senior David Scott (South Ozone Park, NY/) was seventh (23.91), Jack Humphrey took eighth (24.65), and sophomore Dylan Harrison (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) finished ninth (25.15).
Oneonta placed second in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Aramini, Weseman, Cheng, and Heaney recorded a time of 7:52.03.
Sophomore Ben Heyman (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) placed second in the one-meter dive with 342.08 points.
Oneonta continues the Snow Flurries Invitational on Saturday with sessions at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
