LAVAL, Quebec - The Oneonta men's basketball team wrapped up the Northern Classic with a 90-62 loss to UAlbany on Sunday afternoon. While the game serves as an exhibition contest for the Red Dragons, the win counts for the Great Danes (2-5).
"I thought our guys played very hard today. We competed on both ends of the floor," said head coach Cameron Conover. "They had a huge size advantage, but we kept battling. Although we didn't get the results we wanted, we will benefit and learn from playing these Division I games. Our guys are excited for practice this week."
After Oneonta tied 7-7 following a pair of free throws from sophomore Cam LaClair (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem), UAlbany used a 7-0 run to take the lead. Baskets from LaClair and junior Nicholas Cortez (Harlem, NY/Forest Hills) pulled the Red Dragons within 16-13 at 11:32, but a dunk from Okechukwu Okeke spurred a 10-0 run to push the lead to double digits. Ife West-Ingram hit an inside jumper to take a 38-16 lead before sophomore Sam Booth (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) knocked down a three-pointer at 4:37. Senior Delano Knox (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) cut the lead to 45-27 at 1:59, but the Great Danes used a 7-0 span to go up by 25 points. LaClair hit a trey in the final seconds to make it 52-30 at halftime.
UAlbany led by as many as 31 points in the second half, as the Red Dragons could not lessen the Great Danes' lead.
