SCRANTON, PA - The Oneonta men's swimming & diving team concluded the Electric City Invitational on Sunday afternoon, placing second out of five teams with 810 points. Wilkes won the three-day meet with 957 points.
The Sunday session began with the 200-yard backstroke, where senior Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/) secured a first-place victory at 2:00.75. Red Dragons' teammate junior Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) took second at 2:02.06. In the 100-yard freestyle, fifth-year Maddox Aramini (Cooperstown, NY/Cherry Valley-Springfield) earned second at 50.93. Sophomore Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley) swam a 52.66 for sixth overall, and senior David Scott (South Ozone Park, NY/) took tenth at 54.62.
Oneonta fared well in the 200-yard breaststroke with two finishers in the top five. Sophomore Bastion Dudley placed second at 2:32.27, while senior Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central) touched third at 2:32.36. Junior Matt Cleveland (Binghamton, NY/Union Endicott/ Endicott) was seventh at 2:51.60.
Senior Calvin Hitzschke (Mexico, NY/Mexico Academy & Central School) swam a 2:13.54 in the 200-yard butterfly for fourth overall. Freshman Brendan Kliment (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) finished eighth at 2:32.94.
Oneonta capped off the meet with a first-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Funior Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany), Aramini, Tyrrell, and Hitzschke recorded a 3:18.51.
Oneonta next competes in its final meet of the semester at the Cortland Snowflurries Invitational from December 5-6. Â
