Oneonta Currently Second After Two Days of Electric City Invitational

SCRANTON, PA - After two days and three sessions, the Oneonta men's swimming & diving team stands second out of seven teams at the Electric City Invitational hosted by Marywood University with 594 points. Wilkes is currently in first with 698 points.

The Friday afternoon session saw the Red Dragons compete in three events, with a highlight being a win in the 200-yard medley relay. Seniors Delroy Tyrrell (Trincity, Trinidad and Tobago/), Brendan Heaney (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Forks Central), Calvin Hitszchke, and junior Nick Rhodes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) won at 1:39.44. Oneonta had a second relay of juniors, Andrew Capella (Glenville, NY/Burnt-Hills-Ballston Lake), Cosmo Martinelli (Albany, NY/Albany), sophomore Russell Cheng (Westchester, NY/Ardsley), and fifth-year Aramini Maddox finish fifth at 1:49.88.

The Red Dragons went on to earn first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Aramini, Cheng, Hitzschke, and Martinelli posting a time of 1:29.69.

Saturday morning's session opened with the 500-yard freestyle, where junior Gavin Weseman (Olean, NY/Olean) took seventh place at 5:32.20. Rhodes grabbed second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.29. Hitzschke was fourth (2:10.90), while Heaney touched sixth (2:12.81).

Tyrrell won the 50-yard freestyle by swimming a 22.10, and Martinelli touched third at 22.58. Aramini finished at 23.28 for seventh overall.

Oneonta won its third relay of the meet in the 400-yard medley. Tyrrell, Heaney, Rhodes, and Hitzschke swam a 3:45.60.

In the afternoon session, Heaney placed third overall in the 400-yard IM at 4:53.87. The Red Dragons went 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly, with Tyrrell winning at 53.40. Hitzschke placed second at 55.64. Martinelli earned sixth at 58.16.

Aramini continued with a third-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:54.21. Weseman placed sixth at 1:58.54.

Martinelli grabbed fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:06.00, while sophomore Bastion Dudley was seventh at 1:07.94.

Rhodes took second in the 100-yard backstroke at 54.14

Oneonta wrapped up the day by taking second in the 800-yard freestyle. Dudley, Martinelli, Heaney, and Tyrrell swam a 7:46.52.

Oneonta concludes the Electric City Invitational on Sunday, November 23 at 10 a.m.
