ONEONTA, N.Y. - Head Oneonta cross country/track & field coach Chris Wilber is pleased to announce the hiring of Meghann Tanner as an associate head coach for the 2025-26 season. Tanner previously served as the head cross country coach at SUNY Potsdam and is an alumnus of the program at Oneonta.
"We are excited to have Meghann return to Oneonta as an associate coach!" said Wilber. "Meghann has a lot of experience as a former student athlete and experience as the head coach at Potsdam. We are excited to add her to our staff and continue to develop the next generation of successful student-athletes."Â
In her four years at Potsdam, Tanner coached three individual SUNYAC conference champions and oversaw over 50 school-record-setting performances. In 2023, Tanner received the Potsdam Coach of the Year honor.Â
"SUNY Oneonta Athletics is excited to announce the addition of Meghann to our Cross Country and Track & Field programs as our new Associate Head Coach," said SUNY Oneonta Director of Athletics Ryan Hooper. "Meghann has a wealth of experience that she will be bringing with her.  She has a deep passion for these programs and a commitment to developing student-athletes on and off the course. She also has a strong connection with SUNY Oneonta, being an alum of our Cross Country and Track & Field programs. We're confident that Coach Tanner will be a tremendous asset for our programs and an outstanding representative of our athletic department."
Tanner earned a bachelor's degree in Human Ecology with a minor in Athletic Coaching from SUNY Oneonta and then received her master's degree from SUNY Cortland in Sports Management. While running for Oneonta, Tanner was a consistent championship competitor with four conference cross country appearances and another four in track. Tanner currently holds a top-10 spot in the program's all-time 3000m steeplechase performance.Â
