BETHLEHEM, PA - The Oneonta women's cross country team raced at the historic Lehigh University Paul Short Invitational on Friday morning and afternoon. The Red Dragons had 11 runners compete in the "Open" race and fielded eight in the "Women's College White" 6K race, which consisted of over 400 runners.
In the "white" race, Oneonta placed 38th out of 45 teams with 934 points. NYU won with 55 points, while RPI's Jules Bleskoski won the meet with a time of 20:20.8
Junior Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) was Oneonta's top finisher at a personal best of 22:59.0 for 127th place, while sophomore Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) took 172nd at a personal record of 23:19.9. Freshman Jill Cinquina (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) ran a personal best 23:24.7 for 179th place. Junior Anya Sloth (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta Senior) crossed 272nd at 24:19.3, and sophomore Anna Kern (Central Valley, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) posted a 24:40.0 for 295th. Â
Junior Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) ran a career-best time of 25:10.3 to take 337th, and sophomore Sophia Allen (Scotia, NY/Scotia Glenville) was 354th with a 25:32.1. Senior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) ran a 25:38.1 for 360th.
In the "open" race, there was no team scoring, but freshman Kaitlynn Slobodin (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) placed 327th at 25:36.2. Freshman Sam Salomon (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) crossed at a personal best of 25:38.1, while senior Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) ran a personal record of 26:00.3 for 355th. Freshman Alex Friedel (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) ran a 26:09.1, and freshman Summer Sayaves (Levittown, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) finished at 26:42.2.
Oneonta's next competition is at the Rowan Border Battle on October 18.
