ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Oneonta men's soccer junior
James Cintron (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) earned the SUNYAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors for the week of October 13-19, announced by the conference Monday afternoon. It is the second time this season the Red Dragons goalkeeper has been named the conference's player of the week, as he finished this previous week with 14 saves for a .933 save percentage and recorded a shutout to help the team go 1-0-1 in SUNYAC play.
Cintron started the week with a season-high 11 saves, including five in the final 30 minutes, in Oneonta's 1-1 draw with (RV) Buffalo State. The Poughkeepsie, N.Y., native then totaled three saves and picked up his sixth shutout of the season in a 2-0 road win at Canton.
The junior goalie has recorded 47 saves this season for a .770 save percentage and has allowed 0.98 goals a game while totaling six shutouts. He is tied for third in the SUNYAC in shutouts, is seventh in saves, and eighth in save percentage.
Oneonta (9-3-3, 4-1-2 SUNYAC) closes out the regular season this week with a pair of conference matches on Red Dragon Field. The Red Dragons host New Paltz on Wednesday, October 22, at 3 pm, then play Morrisville on Senior Day, Saturday, October 25, at 1 pm. The team is currently the three seed in the conference with 14 points, and are a point behind second seed Buffalo State and a point ahead of fourth seed Plattsburgh.
