Zach Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay) scored the game-winner for Oneonta in the early moments of the first half, then senior
Dillon Kelly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Beacon) netted his first career goal on a penalty kick in the second half for the team's insurance goal. The Red Dragons improved to 9-3-3 overall, 4-1-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Roos dropped to 3-13-1 in the season and 1-6-0 in conference play.
Junior
James Cintron (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) made an early diving-save in the 3rd minute of play to keep the match scoreless, before Oneonta took control and scored in the 11th minute. Canton tried to pass the ball in their own territory when Rabadi stole the pass, brushed by a defender and fired a shot from the top of the 18 for his second goal of the season.
The Red Dragons made it the final 2-nil score in the 51st minute off a penalty kick. Senior
Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) led a pass into the box for junior
Imari Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston), and Harris was immediately tripped by a Roos defender inside the box, granting the Red Dragons a penalty kick. Kelly took the PK for Oneonta and one-hopped the ball into the open left side of the net for his first collegiate goal, as Canton's keeper, Joey Raap, dove towards the opposite side.
In the 64th minute, Cintron jumped and grabbed Hayden Brimelow's shot from a long free kick, then the junior keeper stopped another shot from Brimelow in the 75th minute to keep his sixth shutout of the season intact.
Cintron finished the match with three saves for Oneonta, while Raap ended with eight saves for Canton.
The Red Dragons outshot the Roos 22-9 in total shots, 11-3 with shots on net, and they held a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Oneonta's next match is on Wednesday, October 22, against New Paltz at 3 pm at Red Dragon Field.
