ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta women's tennis team wrapped up the fall season Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 non-conference win against Marywood at Dr. Heissan's Tennis Courts. Junior
Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) and sophomores
Annika Cripe (Islip, N.Y./Islip) and
Taylor Plue (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) each recorded a win in doubles and singles as the Red Dragons improved to 5-7 overall and the Pacers dropped to 5-2 in the season.
Freshmen duo
Ashley Glaviano (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and
Kiersten Rufrano (Oneonta, NY) bageled Hannah Brownlee and Abigail Mach, 6-0, on the No. 3 doubles court and raised their record to 5-2 as a team. Oneonta completed the doubles sweep with a pair of 6-2 scores on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. Cripe and Peck defeated Hanna Adonizio and Alexandra Vitale on the No. 1 court and improved to 7-5 as the team's top duo, while Plue and freshman
Dakota Jimenez (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) bested Catarina English and Avianna Santarelli on court No. 2 to lift their doubles record to 5-3 as a pair.
The Red Dragons kept the strong play going into singles and won four of the matches. Peck beat Vitale in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, for her fourth victory on the No. 1 court this season. Cripe controlled her match against Santarelli on court No. 2 and won 6-4, 6-2, to improve her singles record to 6-5. Plue upended English on court No. 3 in straight 6-2 sets to elevate her singles record to 7-3. Freshman
Trinity Lyons (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) defeated Laura Farber on court No. 6 in double bagel fashion, 6-0, 6-0, and boosted her singles record to 5-4 overall.
The Red Dragons are on break for the rest of the fall season and will return on Saturday, February 7, for a road match at RIT.
