HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field team wrapped up action at the Houghton Highlander Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Eight Red Dragons finished in the top five of their respective events.
Sophomore Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) won the 60-meter hurdle prelims at 8.42 and was second in the finals at 8.93. Freshman Masen Valachovic (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) ran 9.23 to reach the finals. He placed seventh at 11.78.
Junior Cameron Spears placed seventh in the 60-meter dash prelims at 7.10. In the 400-meter race, freshman Thomas Stasichin (Massapequa, NY/Mas) took fourth at 52.02, while Spears ran 52.22 for fifth overall.
Three Red Dragons placed in the top nine of the 800-meter race, with senior Gabe Burns (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) running 2:02.04 for sixth place. Sophomore Lucas Berg (Nyack, NY/Nyack) was seventh at 2:05.01. Senior Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ) crossed ninth at 2:06.00.
Oneonta's 4x400 relay of Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Gabriel Schoonmaker (), Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy), and Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) took third at 3:39.14. Â
In the throwing events, junior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) took second in the weight throw at 15.83 meters. Senior Marco Alteri was fourth with 14.73 meters. Sophomore Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) hit 12.48 meters for tenth place. Eckberg also placed sixth in the shot put at 12.82 meters.
Freshman Loudon Krumbiegel (Riverhead, NY/Riverhead) cleared 3.55 meters to place fifth in the pole vault.
Slater earned fourth in the triple jump at 12.95 meters, while freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) was sixth at 12.73 meters. Sophomore Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) cleared 1.79 meters to place fifth in the high jump.
Oneonta next competes at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Sat. Feb. 1.
