Late Run Lifts Oswego Over Men's Basektball, 67-59

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's basketball team fell to Oswego, 67-59, in SUNYAC play after a late second half run Tuesday evening in Dewar Arena. Oneonta was up one with 4:20 to play when Oswego ended the game with a 15-6 run. Freshman Cam LaClair (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem) recorded his first collegiate double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Red Dragons moved to 8-7 on the season, 3-5 in the SUNYAC, and the Lakers improved to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

"Tough loss, our guys fought hard and competed well," said head coach Cameron Conover. "Unfortunately, they made a few more plays down the stretch. We will keep working and get back to work tomorrow."

Oswego held the lead throughout the first half after scoring six unanswered points to start the game. Sophomore Kobe Long (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) assisted LaClair on a three-pointer then drained one himself off a pass from junior Delano Knox (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) to cut the deficit to 14-13 at 10:36. Oswego slowly rebuilt their lead to seven points when Billy Reyes hit a triple at 5:55. Junior Tyler Harts (Queens, NY/Sewanaka) scored six of the Red Dragons final nine points of the half, but the Lakers used the free throw line in the final couple minutes for a 32-25 lead at the break.

Oneonta opened the second half with a 19-7 run for a 44-39 advantage with 12:23 to play. Junior Elijah Castillo (Bronx, NY/St. Raymonds) scored six points during the stretch, Harts and Long each had five, Knox drove the baseline for a bucket and senior Caleb Brown (Brooklyn, NY/Uncommon Charter) split a pair at the line. The Lakers scored six unanswered to regain the lead until Castillo made a free throw and junior Shea Barber (Wells Bridge, NY/Unatego) knocked down a corner three and a pair at the line to put the Red Dragons up 50-45 with 8:06 remaining.

Oswego recorded seven straight points to go ahead 52-50 with 5:31 left. LaClair made one from the free throw line and senior Zyeir Lawrence (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) hit a baseline jumper to give Oneonta a 53-52 edge with 4:20 to go, however Oswego closed out the game with a 15-6 run.

Harts finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, Long totaled 10 points, and Castillo recorded nine points and four assists.

Oswego's Deacon Judd had the game-high 27 points with nine rebounds and three blocks, Cole Kattan finished with 15 points and seven boards.

The Lakers shot 44.2 percent from the floor, while the Red Dragons shot 38.3 percent and held a 32-31 rebounding advantage.
