ITHACA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's track & field competed in the second meet of the indoor season at Saturday's Cornell Southern Tier Invitational. The Red Dragons competed against a competitive field of Division I, II, and III teams in the unscored meet.
The track events opened with the 60-meter hurdles, and four Red Dragons reached the finals. Sophomore Tariq Earl (Centereach, NY/Centereach) was fourth in the prelims at 8.75, while freshman Masen Valachovic (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) was fifth at 8.94. Freshman Jack Sergeant (Pearl River, NY/Clarkstown South) was seventh at 9.14, and freshman Justin Berkowitz (East Meadow, NY/East Meadow) was eighth at 9.56. Earl was fourth at 8.57 in the finals, Valachovic took fifth at 8.97, and Sergeant placed sixth at 9.03. Berkowitz finished eighth with a 9.50.
In the 60-meters, junior Cameron Spears tied for tenth at 7.15, while freshman Alex Darrigo (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) ran a 7.22 for 13th.
Valachovic placed 12th in the 200-meter race at 23.51, while junior Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) ran a 23.54 for 13th overall. Spears placed 14th at 23.75. Â
In the field events, senior Marco Alteri finished second in the weight throw at 15.22 meters. Junior Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) placed fifth at 14.04 meters, and sophomore Elijah Cruz (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush Central) was eighth at 13.05 meters. Sophomore Kyle Mullen (/) threw 11.59 meters for tenth, and sophomore Justin Baldwin (Cato, NY/Cato-Meridian) was 11th at 11.47 meters.
Eckberg took sixth in the shot put at 13.01 meters, while Mullen was eighth at 12.50 meters. Baldwin grabbed tenth with a throw of 11.58 meters.
Sophomore Isaiah Slater (Brooklyn, NY/John F. Kennedy) was the highest Division III finisher in the long jump, taking second at 6.53 meters. Freshman Ayobami Adebayo (Long Island, NY/Longwood) cleared 13.16 meters in the triple jump to place fifth overall. Slater took sixth at 12.73 meters, while junior Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) was seventh at 12.58 meters. Sophomore Thomas Pinkowski finished eighth at 12.41 meters.
Adebayo won the high jump at 1.93 meters, while sophomore Jayden Tsoi (North White Plains, NY/Valhalla High School) finished sixth at 1.78 meters.
