Oneonta Falls in SUNYAC Semifinals to New Paltz

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's basketball season ended Friday evening with an 80-59 loss to New Paltz in the SUNYAC Semifinals. Senior Graham Wooden (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) led the team with 18 points.

After New Paltz took a quick 4-0 lead, Oneonta responded with a Wooden triple and a layup by sophomore Elijah Castillo (Bronx, NY/St. Raymonds) to lead 5-4. New Paltz's A.J. Knight drained a three-pointer the following possession. The teams traded leads until junior Xavier Hill (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) converted a layup at 14:45 to tie 12-12. The Hawks responded with a 6-0 run, and a three-pointer from Ethan St. Lucia pushed New Paltz ahead 23-16.

A 12-0 New Paltz run with seven points from Rylan Blondo gave the Hawks a double-digit lead that Oneonta struggled to surmount. St. Lucia hit another triple at 7:09 to make it 40-20. New Platz continued to build its advantage, leading 47-26 at halftime.

The New Paltz momentum carried over into the second half with a three from A.J. Knight making it a 26-point game. Hill and sophomore Tyler Harts (Queens, NY/Sewanaka) chipped away at the lead with a pair of baskets, and Oneonta used a 6-0 span to cut the score to 59-38. At 9:36, Harts scored an inside jumper to trim the lead to 18 points, but that was the closest the Red Dragons got as the Hawks finished with a 21-point victory.

Along with Wooden's 18 points, Castillo added 12, while Harts finished with 11 points. Junior PJ Laidley (Fort Lauderdale, FL/Pembroke Pines Charter) finished with nine boards.

Blondo scored a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Kobe Bogart finished with 18 points. Knight scored 17.

Oneonta finishes the season at 13-14 and 9-9 in the SUNYAC.
