Oswego Pulls Away in Second Half to Down Oneonta, 83-70

OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Oswego Lakers outscored Oneonta 45-34 in the second half to secure an 83-70 win on Wednesday evening to open SUNYAC play. The Red Dragons fall to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the SUNYAC, while the Lakers move to 5-1 and 1-0 in the conference.

"We played better tonight and did some nice things out there," said head coach Cameron Conover. "However, we keep turning the ball over and it's hard to win when we turn it over as often as we do now. We'll get back to work tomorrow."

Oneonta took a 12-8 lead following baskets from junior Tyler Harts (Queens, NY/Sewanaka) and senior Zyeir Lawrence (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta). The Red Dragons built a six-point advantage with junior Delano Knox (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scoring inside at 12:13. Oswego's Sean Edwards responded with a triple to cut the lead to three before junior Luke De Gannes (Burlington, Ontario/Tennessee Prep) converted inside to make it 19-14.

Threes from Steven Bradley and Edwards gave Oswego a 25-23 lead with eight minutes remaining, and then a 6-0 Lakers' run made it 31-26. The Red Dragons answered with a 6-0 span capped off with a dunk from Lawrence to retake the lead. With under 30 seconds in the half, Knox scored a fastbreak layup to tie 36-36, but Ahkee Anderson scored a final basket to give Oswego a two-point lead heading into the break.

The Lakers opened the second half on an 8-0 run with baskets from Deacon Judd and Cole Kattan to take their largest lead at 46-36. Senior Caleb Brwon broke the streak with a three-pointer at 17:22 to bring the score within single digits. Harts hit a trey, and Lawrence threw down another dunk to cut the lead to 48-44.

Oswego went ahead by ten again before freshman Cam LaClair (Selkirk, NY/Bethlehem) knocked down a triple at 12:24 to make it 57-50. The Lakers built up to a 15-point lead following a 9-0 run. Scores from junior Elijah Castillo (Bronx, NY/St. Raymonds) and LaClair cut the lead to 76-70 with 1:14 left, but the Lakers closed out on a 7-0 run.

Lawrence recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. He added four assists, four blocks, and one steal. LaClair netted a career-high 16 points with nine rebounds, while Haets scored ten points and grabbed six boards.

Anderson led all scorers with 19 points with six boards and five assists. Bradley scored 18 points, while Kattan had 17 points and six rebounds.

Oneonta returns home to host Buffalo State on Fri. Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
