ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team fell 3-1 to Hartwick on Saturday afternoon to conclude the season. The Red Dragons finish at 9-18, while the Hawks move to 20-2. Oneonta took the first set 25-22 before losing 25-21, 25-18, and 25-17.
Freshman Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) led Oneonta with ten kills and six blocks, while junior Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia) added eight kills and four aces. Junior Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) recorded five kills and four blocks. Junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) tallied five aces and 20 digs, while freshman Hailey Herrera (Brooklyn, NY/Park Slope Collegiate) made 15 assists.
Isabella Gracias finished with a match-high 18 kills, while Shaelyn Thornton had 13. Staecia Silofau had seven blocks, while Shelby Braelyn had 46 assists. Shelby Swartz finished with 21 digs.
Oneonta took a 5-1 lead early in the first set with two kills from Landversicht and an A. Moller ace. The Red Dragons built up to a 10-7 lead following a kill from sophomore Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford). Hartwick would lead a 20-16 following a 4-0 run, but Oneonta remained within striking distance. An error gave Hartwick a 22-19 advantage before Oneonta closed out on a 6-0 run to take the first set.
The Hawks responded by taking the following three sets. Oneonta remained competitive, but Hartwick took a 22-13 lead in the fourth. The Red Dragons cut the lead to seven before Thornton sent in the final kill.
