Red Dragons Bested by Thoroughbreds

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team fell to Skidmore College on the road, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon. Graduate student Erin Clark (Somers, N.Y./Somers) scored the Red Dragons' lone goal in the third period as the team moved to 6-5 overall, and the Thoroughbreds improved to 6-6.

Skidmore's Colby Paul struck first at 3:55 off a pass from Abby Ezickson, then scored her second goal of the game with a penalty stroke at 31:25 to give the Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead. Clark got the goal back and made it 2-1 at 31:54 off a penalty corner. Freshman Skyler Van Wormer (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) passed it out to Clark, who was on the right side of the shooting circle, and she fired it into the cage for the second goal of the season.

CC Wetter turned it back into a two-goal game at 48:44 off a pass from Paul. Senior Caitlyn Caulfield (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) had a penalty stroke opportunity at 54:42, but it was saved by the Thoroughbred's keeper, Victoria Bodnar. Paul scored Skidmore's final goal at 56:15 for the 4-1 final.

Junior Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) finished with seven saves for the Red Dragons and Bodnar had eight saves for the Thoroughbreds. Skidmore held an 18-10 advantage in shot attempts, 12-9 on goal, while Oneonta had a 10-9 edge in penalty corners.

The Red Dragons are back in action on Friday, October 11, for a SUNYAC match on the road against Morrisville at 4 pm.
