ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team dropped their conference opening game to New Paltz, 5-1, Saturday afternoon on All College Field. Junior
Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) had a season-high 16 saves in the contest, while junior
Molly Miller (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) scored the lone goal for the team. The Red Dragons moved to 6-4 on the season, 0-1 in the SUNYAC, and the Hawks improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
The game was scoreless for most of the first half until New Paltz recorded a pair of goals in a 30 second span. Ashley McGough scored the first goal at 24:46 off an assist from Rachel Tama, then Tama scored off a pass from McGough at 25:10 to go ahead 2-0 at halftime.
Miranda Britton made it 3-0 for the Hawks, then Miller scored her fifth goal of the season while in front of a crowded cage and off a pass from sophomore
Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) at 36:59. Tama added two more goals in the fourth period for the Hawks.

Caitlyn Caulfield (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) had two defensive saves and junior
Gabby Alfinito (Mohegan Lake, N.Y./Lakeland) had one for the Red Dragons. Gail Comiskey finished with five saves for the Hawks. New Paltz outshot Oneonta 28-7 and had a 15-9 advantage in penalty corners.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Wednesday, October 9, for a road match against Skidmore College at 4 pm.
