OSWEGO, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's lacrosse season ended with a 22-9 loss to Oswego in Saturday's SUNYAC Tournament first round. The Red Dragons finish the season 5-11, while the Lakers move to 13-4.Â
After Oswego's Julia Quirk netted the opening goal, junior Margaret Byrne (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) scored at 9:56 to tie 1-1. The Lakers responded, but back-to-back scores from Marissa Evans (Jamesville, NY/LaFayette) and Cassidy Moore (Hampton Bays, NY/Hampton Bays) gave the Red Dragons a 3-2 lead. Oswego tied following a goal from Isabella Lembo and then scored three goals in the final two minutes of the first quarter to go up 6-3.Â
The run continued into the second quarter when the Lakers rattled off a 7-0 run, with Sela Wiley finding the back of the net three times. Junior Lauren Mancini (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) gave Oneonta its last goal of the half to make it 13-4 heading into the break.Â
Oswego pushed to a 15-5 lead following a goal from Shae McConnell, but the Red Dragons pulled with eight when Evans and Byrne picked up scores. Oswego added two more goals before Mancini scored at 1:20 to make it 17-8.
It was all Oswego in the fourth, with the Lakers outscoring the Red Dragons 5-1. Quirk and Lembo gave Oswego two goals each, while sophomore Miranda Murray (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) was the lone Oneonta goal.Â
Mancini scored three goals, while Evans added two goals and two assists. Byrne finished with two goals.Â
Lembo tallied a game-high nine goals, and Shae McConnell scored four goals. Wiley had three goals and seven assists.Â
