Oneonta Track & Field Finishes Second Day of Cortland Classic

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta track & field teams wrapped up day two of the Cortland Classic on Saturday. Both the men's and women's squads competed with multiple regional qualifiers and personal records.

The 10,000-meter race resumed in the morning, and senior Justin Murillo (Elmont, NY/New Hyde Park) set a personal best of 33:23.67 to place fifth overall. 

Freshmen Joshua Jerome, Cameron Sands (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), and junior Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield) suited up for the men's 4x100 relay and posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 43.48 to finish second overall.

Junior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) placed sixth in the 110-meter hurdle finals at 15.68. In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) was fifth at a personal best of 17.64.

Junior Luke Jarski (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) crossed eighth in the men's 400-meter with a time of 51.54, while Weiss was 17th at 54.24. Junior Erin Gallagher (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland) placed tenth in the women's 400 at 1:09.95.

Jerome took fifth in the men's 100-meter finals at 11.23.

In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Mavros was at 1:00.79, and junior Taylor Johnson (White Plains, NY/White Plains) was ninth in the women's race at 1:17.55. Freshman Ashlee Sphabmixay (Vestal, NY/Vestal) ran a personal record of 1:23.24 for tenth overall. 

Sophomore Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) placed ninth in the women's 200-meter with a 26.44, and junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was 11th at 26.59.

In the throwing events, junior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) was second overall in the women's shot put with a mark of 13.18 meters. Junior Emelene Burek (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) was fourth at 11.94 meters, and sophomore Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) earned sixth with a throw of 11.13. 

Freshman Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) won the men's discus and qualified for regionals with a personal best throw of 43.95 meters. Junior Vincent Sheng grabbed fifth with a career-best mark of 42.73 meters. 

Freshman Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) tallied a personal best of 33.94 meters in the women's discus which was good for eighth overall. Senior Hannah Jackson (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) had a personal record of 33.81 for ninth overall.

Sophomore Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) finished at 13.23 meters in the men's triple jump to take sixth place. 

Oneonta went 1-2 in the men's high jump, with freshman Alex Ordonez (Troy, NY/Troy) clearing 1.93 meters for first. Junior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) was second at 1.88 meters. Senior Josephine Alliano (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) took sixth in the women's high jump at 1.46 meters. 

Oneonta next competes at the RPI Capital District Classic on Sat. Apr. 29.
