ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 setback in non-conference action against Union, Thursday afternoon. The Red Dragons moved to 8-13 on the season while the Dutchwomen improved to 9-5 overall.  

Freshman Danielle Copp (Marcellus/Marcellus) won Oneonta their match point on the No. 5 singles court against Kate Hirnak. After dropping the first set 6-3, Copp took the second set off a set tie breaker, 7-3, forcing a 10-point tie breaker. In the super set, Copp came out on top to win the match, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-6.

Junior Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) had a battle on the No. 1 court versus Gracie Nicol. Holtermann won the first set, 6-4, but fell in the second set, 6-2, forcing a third set. Nicol snuck out with the victory winning the set after a tie breaker, 7-6 (7-3).  

The Red Dragons are back in action on Saturday for their Senior Day against RIT at 4 pm.  Read Full Article
