Women's Tennis Falls in Two-Match Weekend

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team continued to prepare for the SUNYAC playoffs with a non-conference two-match weekend against the College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Rochester. The Red Dragons fell to the Lions 9-0 and to the Yellowjackets 8-1, dropping them to 8-12 on the season.

Senior Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) won Oneonta's match point against Rochester on the No. 4 singles court versus Neha Dania. After Karen took the first set 6-3, the second set went 6-6, forcing a tie breaker. It took more than the seven points needed to win, but ultimately Karen came out with a 9-7 tie breaker win to take the match, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Junior Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) battled on the No. 3 court, however her opponent, Jasmin Toor, would win the match, 6-3, 6-4.

In the doubles matches against a tough TCNJ group, Oneonta won two games. In singles play, freshman Danielle Copp (Marcellus/Marcellus) and Shaw kept it close in their respected matches. Unfortunately, Copp dropped her match, 8-5, against Chase Eisenberg on the No. 5 court, and Shaw fell, 8-4, on the No. 3 court against Alexa Vasile.

The Red Dragons are back in action on Thursday when they host Union at 4 pm.
