Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) won on the No. 4 singles court for the Red Dragons as the team moved to 8-4 on the season and the Herons improved to 2-0. Â
In the doubles matches, Shaw and junior
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) faced Audrey Camacho and Julia Pida on the No. 2 court. The match went back and forth and led to a 7-7 game split, forcing a tiebreaking set. In the tiebreaker, Camacho and Pida eventually got the upper hand and won, 8-7 (7-5), giving the Herons a 3-0 match lead heading into the singles match play. Â
Shaw got Oneonta's lone win on the No. 4 court where she defeated Natalie Haythorn in a tough, 6-4, 6-2 contest. Junior
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) battled on the No. 1 court against Isabelle Goings-Perr, but came up short, 6-4, 6-3. Â
The Red Dragons are back in action Monday, March 13, when they begin their Spring Break competition in Lake Nona, Fla. against Denison University and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
