GENEVA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team were defeated in their road match against William Smith, 8-1, Sunday afternoon. Junior Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) won on the No. 4 singles court for the Red Dragons as the team moved to 8-4 on the season and the Herons improved to 2-0.  

In the doubles matches, Shaw and junior Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) faced Audrey Camacho and Julia Pida on the No. 2 court. The match went back and forth and led to a 7-7 game split, forcing a tiebreaking set. In the tiebreaker, Camacho and Pida eventually got the upper hand and won, 8-7 (7-5), giving the Herons a 3-0 match lead heading into the singles match play.  

Shaw got Oneonta's lone win on the No. 4 court where she defeated Natalie Haythorn in a tough, 6-4, 6-2 contest. Junior Julia Holtermann (Staten Island/Curtis) battled on the No. 1 court against Isabelle Goings-Perr, but came up short, 6-4, 6-3.  

The Red Dragons are back in action Monday, March 13, when they begin their Spring Break competition in Lake Nona, Fla. against Denison University and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Read Full Article
