ITHACA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team fell in their road match to Ithaca, 7-2, Sunday morning. The result moved the Red Dragons to 8-10 on the season and the Bombers improved to 5-5 overall.  

Ithaca took all three doubles matches, surrendering only three games. Juniors Sophia Schutte (Great Neck/Great Neck) and Brianna Shaw (Staten Island/Curtis) won two of the games on the No. 2 court against Taylor Crain and Caroline Herz.  

In the singles matches, Schutte and senior Maxie Karen (New York, NY/The Clinton School) won their respected matches for the Red Dragons. Schutte's match against Kayla Shenk went down to the wire on the No. 2 court. After Shenk took set one 6-2, Schutte forced a super tie breaker, winning the second set, 6-3. In the tiebreaker the match went back and forth, but it was Schutte that came out on top, 10-8. Karen easily defeated Eliana Chelnick on the No. 4 court in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

Shaw had a battle on the No. 3 court against Sabrina Cheung, but Cheung came out with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

Freshman Danielle Copp (Marcellus/Marcellus) also had a tough match on the No. 6 court against Sarah Kohberger. Copp got the upper hand in the first set and won 7-5, however Kohberger managed to force a super tie break with a 6-1 second set. In the tie breaker, Kohberger got a couple breaks and won 10-7.  

The Red Dragons are back in action Saturday when they host TCNJ at 1 pm on Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts. Read Full Article
