ITHACA, N.Y. -Â Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) broke the Oneonta men's indoor track & field school record in the heptathlon scoring 4,614 points on the second day of the Ithaca Bomber Invitational. James Guarnera set the previous record with 4,425 points in 2016.Â
Senior Josephine Alliano and sophomore Sage Douglass participated in the women's pentathlon.
Day two of the invitational consisted only of the multi-events and consisted of a field of Division I and III athletes. Mangogna placed fourth overall, and junior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) also competed and took 11th with 4,116 points. In the 60-meter hurdles, Mangogna placed ninth at 9.29, while Kelly ran a 9.76. The duo performed well in the pole vault, with Mangogna taking third at 4.40 meters. Kelly placed sixth at 3.60. The heptathlon concluded with the 1,000-meter race, where Mangogna and Kelly went ninth and tenth, respectively. Mangogna crossed at 3:02.93, and Kelly finished at 3:03.51.
All five pentathlon events were completed today, and Alliano set a personal record of 2,559 points to place tenth overall. Douglass also recorded a personal best with 2,248 points to finish 14th.Â
Alliano ran a career-best of 9.70 in the 60-hurdles to finish sixth, then placed seventh in the high jump with a personal best mark of 1.44 meters. She went on to jump 4.80 meters in the long jump for ninth and another personal record. The pentathlon closed out with the 800-meters, where Douglass ran a career-best of 2:48.81 to take 12th overall.Â
The Red Dragons continue their season next weekend at the Boston University Valentine Invitational on Fri. Feb. 10.
