Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) recorded a hat trick and freshman
Adrian Matute (Islip, N.Y./Islip) scored his first collegiate goal in the win. The Red Dragons improved to 10-2 on the season and 3-2 in the SUNYAC while the Lakers dropped to 2-4-5 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play. Â
"After a couple of losses, it was good to get back on the winning trail," said head coach
Iain Byrne. "Congrats to Luigi on his hat trick... hopefully he has more goals in his future."
The Red Dragons went up in the 11th minute when they forced a turnover and sophomore
Ali Somow (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) took a shot from 20 yards out that bounced off the chest of Lakers goalie, Andre Bourjollu, and rolled towards Prosperi who had an open shot. They extended their lead just before halftime in the 41st minute off a corner kick. Sophomore
Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) delivered the corner to the top of the goal area where Matute came running in for the header into the right side of the net.
Prosperi made it a four-goal game with a pair of second half goals. In the 52nd minute, Somow sent a corner kick into the six-yard box where a few Red Dragons were grouped together and, after the first touch, Prosperi used his right foot to get it past Bourjollu. The final goal for Oneonta was scored in the 67th minute when sophomore
Dillon Kelly (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Beacon) split two defenders and sent a lead pass to Prosperi in the box where he scored off the second touch with his left foot. The Lakers avoided the shutout in the 74th minute with a goal from Derek Rivera. Â
Senior
Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished the game with three saves for Oneonta. Bourjollu ended with eight saves and Finnian Costello saved two shots in the final nine minutes for Oswego.
The Red Dragons outshot the Lakers 22-5, 14-4 on target, and held a 9-2 advantage on corners.
Oneonta is back on the road Tuesday for a conference match against Potsdam at 12 pm.Â
