DELHI, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's soccer team picked up a 4-0 SUNYAC win on the road against Delhi, Wednesday afternoon. Four different Red Dragons scored in the victory as graduate student
Zach Rabadi (Hopewell Junction, NY/John Jay) recorded a goal and an assist, while sophomore
Nico Osorio (Valley Stream, NY/St. Dominick's) finished the game with seven saves for the clean sheet. The win improved the Red Dragons to 11-1-2 this season, 5-1-1 in the SUNYAC, and the Broncos dropped to 9-6-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play.
"It was nice to get back on the winning train after the disappointment in Buffalo," Head Coach
Iain Byrne commented. "We now have our last match on Saturday before we move into the postseason."
Oneonta gained the lead in the 24th minute off a corner kick. Rabadi took the corner for the team and sent it into the box, where freshman
Noah Hechler (Somers, NY/Somers) leaped up and headed the ball into the right side of the net.
The Red Dragons extended their lead to 3-nil with a pair of goals in the 49th and 50th minutes. Graduate student
Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) had the ball near the right sideline and crossed the ball into the middle of the 18-yard box for Rabadi to score off a header. Oneonta kept the pressure on Delhi and was looking to score again when the Bronco keeper tripped graduate student
Iyare Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston) in the box and awarded the Red Dragons a penalty kick. Harris took the PK for the team and fired it directly into the net for his seventh goal of the season.
The team's final goal in the victory was tallied in the 65th minute when freshman
Drew Lennon (Merrick, NY/Sanford H. Calhoun) shot the ball from the top of the penalty area and had it blocked by a defender. The ball popped up towards the keeper, who tried to punch the ball away, but it hit off the crossbar and senior
Imari Harris (Kingston, NY/Kingston) came in for the header. The goal was Harris' seventh of the season.
Osorio made two stops in the first half to maintain the team's one-goal lead. He had to make his third stop in the 48th minute before Oneonta added two more goals to extend their lead to three. The sophomore keeper totaled four more stops in the match for his first shutout of the season.
Salvator Meloni started the first 68:57 in net for Delhi and recorded five saves. Ayden Gieve played in the final 21:03 and made a stop. Shervens Dufleurant, Aidan Gaughan, and Dayshar Herrara each recorded two shots on goal for the Broncos.
The Red Dragons outshot the Broncos in total shots, 20-16, 10-7 on target, while Delhi had a 10-7 advantage in corner kicks.
Oneonta wraps up the regular season on Saturday, October 24, against Alfred State in SUNYAC play at 1 pm at Red Dragon Field. The team honor their seniors for Senior Day against the Pioneers.
