Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Brockport Downs Field Hockey on Senior Day

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- On a rainy Senior Day, the SUNY Oneonta field hockey team fell to Brockport, 3-1, Saturday afternoon. Freshman Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) was the lone goal scorer for the Red Dragons as the team moved to 5-6 on the season and 1-2 in the SUNYAC while the Golden Eagles improved to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the conference.

Before the start of the game, the Red Dragons celebrated eight seniors and their collegiate careers. The seniors that were recognized were Julianna Calo (Sound Beach, N.Y./Rocky Point), Erin Clark (Somers, N.Y./Somers), Molly Geyer (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South), Michaela Maniscalco (Northport, N.Y./Northport), Taylor Moore (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South), Carly O'Connor (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas), Abigail Ricottilli (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland), and Larkin Uhl (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston).

Brockport got on the board three minutes into the contest when Quinn Guy assisted Emmalee Moore for the goal. Guy extended the lead to two in the second period off a pass from Kelsey Zehr.

The Red Dragons made it a one-goal game five minutes into the second half when graduate student Morgan Fleming (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) pushed the ball down towards the cage for Howell to hit in for her second goal of the season. Fleming had a shot to tie the game before the end of the third period, but Ella Buchanan saved the shot.

Halfway through the final 15, Oneonta had three straight penalty corners and registered two shots, however one was blocked and the other was saved by Buchanan. In the closing seconds of the game, the official awarded Brockport a penalty shot that resulted in a goal from Moore.

Sophomore Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) finished with eight saves for the Red Dragons and Buchanan ended with four saves for the Golden Eagles.

Brockport outshot Oneonta 15-9 and had a slight advantage on the penalty corners, 7-6.

Oneonta is back in action Wednesday when they host Skidmore in a non-conference match at 5 pm.
