Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 4 Men’s Soccer Falls at No. 15 Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- After a scoreless first half, No. 15 Cortland scored three in the second for a 3-0 win over the No. 4 SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team in a conference match, Wednesday afternoon. Oneonta moved to 9-2 on the season and 2-2 in the SUNYAC, while Cortland improved to 10-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.

"From our perspective, the three goals were shockingly bad, but outside of that we didn't create enough going forward," said head coach Iain Byrne.

Sophomores Ali Somow (Utica, N.Y./Proctor) and Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) had a couple shots on target in the first half for Oneonta, but Jordan Ott made the saves for Cortland.

In the 49th minute, Cortland's Jack Coleman broke the tie with a shot from 20 yards out. Mancias Magana and junior Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) had a look for the equalizer in the 57th and 69th minutes, however Ott again made both stops. Cortland extended their lead in the 71st when Mateo Marra caused a turnover deep in Oneonta's territory and scored. Yasin Choukri scored Cortland's last goal in the 84th minute.

Cortland outshot Oneonta 24-15, 10-4 on target, and had a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks.

Senior Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished with seven saves while Ott saved four for Cortland.

Oneonta is back in action Saturday for a SUNYAC match at Oswego at 12 pm.
