KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team picked up a 3-0 victory on the road against Keuka College, Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore
Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) finished with seven saves and freshman
Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) recorded two assists in the win. The Red Dragons improved to 5-5 on the season, while the Wolves dropped to 3-7 overall.
Leib stopped all four shots she faced in the first period with three coming within a 15 second span from Kirstin Billings.
Graduate student
Morgan Fleming (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) got Oneonta on the board with less than 30 seconds remaining in the half. She received the ball just outside the shooting circle, passed it to Howell at the top of the circle where Howell pushed the ball towards the cage for Fleming to redirect it in. Â
The Red Dragons extended their lead to two with 10 seconds remaining in the third off a penalty shot. Oneonta was in transition with an open cage ready to score until a Keuka defender tripped Fleming from behind, setting up the penalty shot. Junior
Caitlyn Caulfield (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) took the shot and went waist-high above Wolves' keeper Jordan Nichols stick for the goal.
The final goal for the Red Dragons came with less than two minutes left in the contest. Howell got the ball outside of the shooting circle and brought it all the way towards the right side of the cage, bringing Nichols over, then dumped it to the left to senior
Abigail Ricottilli (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) for an open goal. Â
Oneonta out shot Keuka 28-11, 20-7 on target, and had a 7-5 advantage on penalty corners. Â
The Red Dragons next game is Saturday against Brockport at 3 pm, where the team will also recognize their seniors for Senior Day.Â
